Joker Wins Golden Lion Award At Venice Film Festival 2019

Joker has created a worldwide buzz since its release and it’s no doubt that it has become one of the greatest movies ever made in the history of Hollywood. Direct by Todd Phillips, the movie is a complete masterpiece. The main character of the Joker in the movie is played by Joaquin Phoenix. With his incredible acting skills, Phoenix did justice with the character of Joker. The film was premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and won the Golden Lion top prize on 31st August.

‘Joker’ movie is the screen portrayal of the comic book of the same name. The story revolves around Arthur Fleck, a stand-up comedian who gets transformed into a criminal mastermind known as Joker. Joaquin Phoenix undoubtedly did an incredible job while playing the Joker’s character and he has not just reimagined the character of the supervillain but the whole story itself.

The movie was also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and at both the screenings it has managed to gain a lot of appreciation by the critics. Everybody was impressed with Phoenix and his portrayal of Joker. However, there were mixed reviews about the presence of violence in the movie.

As the movie won the prestigious Golden Lion Award at the Venice International Film Festival, Todd Phillips gave a short speech, he said, “I want to thank Warner Bros. and DC for stepping out of their comfort zone and taking such a bold swing on me and this movie,” with star Joaquin Phoenix by his side on stage.

Directing his words to Phoenix, Phillips said, “Thank you for trusting me with your insane talents.” 

Although Joaquin Phoenix did not win the award of Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival 2019, it went to Italian actor Luca Marinelli.
